WATERLOO, Ont. - Laurier men's rugby scrum-half Drew McQueen and women's soccer goalkeeper Mya Brodrecht have been named the Laurier Athletes of the Week for the week ending September 21, 2026.
 

Drew McQueen - Men's Rugby

Drew McQueen, a third-year business student from Guelph, Ont., turned in a complete performance to help Laurier men's rugby secure a 26-10 road victory over the Waterloo Warriors on Sunday.

The Golden Hawks scrum-half crossed the try line twice in the Battle of Waterloo, accounting for 10 points in the win.

Beyond his offensive contributions, the coaching staff highlighted a pivotal forced turnover that came on a tremendous individual effort, while his physical defensive play and numerous hard tackles helped set the tone throughout the match.

His standout two-way performance helped Laurier imrpove to 1-1 on the season.

Mya Brodrecht - Women's Soccer

Mya Brodrecht, a health sciences student from Kitchener, Ont., delivered a standout performance in goal as Laurier battled the undefeated Brock Badgers to a scoreless draw at Ansley Alumni Field on Thursday night.

Brodrecht recorded her first clean sheet of the season, and the seventh of her OUA career, while organizing the Golden Hawks' back line to hold one of the OUA's top teams goalless for the first time since their season opener.  

Her second career clean sheet against the Badgers also saw the Golden Hawks snap a two-match losing skid and move to ten points on the season - good for fourth in the OUA West. 

This is Brodrecht's first Laurier Athlete of the Week award.
