BRAMPTON and WATERLOO, Ont. -
Canon Canada Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, and Wilfrid Laurier University Athletics & Recreation are excited to announce a first-of-its-kind partnership that makes Canon Canada the Official Imaging Partner of the Laurier Golden Hawks.
This strategic alliance accelerates the modernization of Laurier's sports media production stack through Canon's technology, training, and equipment support, while providing the next generation of creators with access to pro-grade equipment to showcase their talent. Canon's industry-leading photography and videography equipment will significantly enhance the ability of Laurier's Athletics & Recreation media team to capture and showcase Golden Hawks student-athletes, teams, and events.
Through the partnership, Laurier Athletics will integrate Canon's latest EOS R system cameras and RF lenses. The investment will help expand content coverage across Laurier's 15 varsity programs and support the continued development of talented student content creators. Additionally, Canon's Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) camera system will help Laurier innovate the way sports can be covered, testing dynamic multi-camera remote setups to elevate overall production quality and coverage efficiency.
By bringing the same imaging technology used at global sports and entertainment events directly to Laurier, the partnership equips student creators with elite, industry-standard tools.
"This partnership with Canon represents an exciting step forward for Laurier Athletics & Recreation and reinforces our commitment to continually raising the bar for the student-athlete experience," said
Ryan Lannan, Laurier's director of athletics & recreation. "As the first partnership of its kind in U SPORTS, it positions us as leaders in finding innovative and creative ways to showcase our student-athletes while elevating the visibility and impact of the Golden Hawk brand."
This collaboration reflects Canon's commitment to empowering storytellers. By enhancing Laurier's visual content capabilities, Canon technology will help elevate the stories of Golden Hawks student-athletes, strengthen recruitment efforts, boost alumni engagement, and increase the visibility of team and individual achievements.

"We're thrilled to be partnering with Canon in such an innovative way," said
Evan Colborne, Laurier Athletics' manager of marketing and communications. "I'm continually amazed by the talent of our content team, led by
Hailey Tripodi, our content coordinator, and this partnership is going to take what we do to the next level.
"Giving our creators access to equipment that rivals what the pros use is an incredible hands-on learning opportunity for Laurier students, and it's something we simply couldn't do without a partner like Canon. We already have alumni working across the professional sports industry, and I truly believe partnerships like this will help open even more doors for our students. I'm excited to see the impact this has, and I have no doubt that some of the sports world's best images in the years ahead will be captured by current and former Golden Hawks."
This marks Canon Canada's first partnership of its kind with a Canadian university athletics program.
"At Canon, we have a passion for great visual storytelling, and something truly special is happening at the university sports level," said Brett Gaskell, Canon Canada's Sr. Director of Marketing. "The way student creators and alumni are capturing Laurier Athletics has the potential to influence the future of sports media coverage from the youth sports level, up to pro sports. Beyond Laurier, you see social media accounts across U SPORTS following and supporting each other and pushing the envelope for the best content. It's that competition that inspires the new photography and videography styles we see from students. The formalization of Laurier's Sports Media department demonstrates the school's commitment to showcasing its student-athletes, and Canon Canada couldn't be happier to back their vision and support the next generation of creators with the pro grade tools that will help them excel."Â
