WATERLOO, Ont. - Men's golfer Matt Whitehead and women's soccer forward Annick Lariviere have been named the Laurier Athletes of the Week for the week ending September 27, 2026.

Matt Whitehead - Men's Golf

Whitehead put together another outstanding week on the course, recording a pair of top-three finishes.

The fifth-year kinesiology & physical education major from Cambridge, Ont. finished in a four-way tie for third at the Western Men's Invitational, firing an even-par 72 at St. Thomas Golf and Country Club. Despite making four bogeys during the round, Whitehead responded with four birdies to stay near the top of the leaderboard and finish just three strokes behind the individual champion.

The result continued Whitehead's success at the event after he tied for first at the Western Men's Invitational in 2024.

He followed that performance with a second place finish at the Laurier/Waterloo Men's Invitational after carding rounds of 69 and 68 for a two-round total of 137, finishing just three shots off the lead. His second-round 68 was tied for the second-lowest score of the tournament.

This is the second career Laurier Athlete of the Week award for Whitehead.
 

Annick Lariviere - Women's Soccer

Lariviere's influence went far beyond the scoresheet as the Golden Hawks earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw against the York Lions on Friday night.

The forward and business major from Kitchener, Ont. played 88 minutes and was a constant challenge for one of the OUA's top defensive units. Her pace and movement repeatedly created problems for York's back line, helping generate numerous scoring opportunities for Laurier throughout the contest.

Lariviere also played a key role in putting the Lions under pressure defensively, drawing two yellow cards and helping force a red card as the Golden Hawks battled to an important result on the road.

Through her relentless work rate and ability to create chances, Lariviere was instrumental in helping Laurier secure a valuable point as the team continues its push toward the postseason.

This is the first career Laurier Athlete of the Week award for Lariviere.
