WATERLOO, Ont. - Golden Hawks Katie Cosgriffe and Kent Goni Avila are the Laurier Athletes of the Week, presented by The Hawk Shop, for the week ending November 24, 2024.

Cosgriffe, a first-year business math major from Burlington, set three Canadian Para records in the 50M and 100M butterfly as well as the 50M backstroke at the Dean Boles Divisional Championships in St. Catherines. 

She posted her best result in the 100M fly, hitting the wall in third place with a time of 1:06.02.

Cosgriffe finished ninth the 50M backstroke, checking in at 30.93 seconds, and 10th in the 50M fly, finishing in 30.11 seconds.

Goni Avila won all four individual events he competed in and contributed to two relay wins, while also breaking four divisional records at the same event.

The fourth-year business major from Richmond Hill set a new team record in winning the 50M backstroke in a U SPORTS qualifying time of of 26.52 seconds.

He also won the 200M individual medley (2:03.47), breaking his own record from last season. 

Goni Avila set the third program record of the meet in winning the 50M backstroke in another U SPORTS qualifying time of 25.42 seconds.

This is the second Laurier Athlete of the Week award for Cosgriffe and sixth for Goni Avila.
