WATERLOO, Ont. - The Golden Hawks hosted the York Lions and Brock Badgers at the Tomas Fuke Memorial Meet, named after Golden Hawk Hall of Famer and assistant swimming coach Thomas Fuke who passed away earlier this year.
The Thomas Fuke Memorial Meet also marked the last home meet for the Golden Hawks this season and was their senior appreciation meet. The swim team took a moment to recognize the accomplishments of the five graduating swimmers William Bryer, Kenzy Khattab, Marty Konecny, Cooper McKay, and Morgan Pequin.
The meet started with the 4x100m freestyle relay, The women's 'A' relay finished third, 'B' relay finished fifth and 'C' relay finished sixth. The men's relays dominated the event. The 'B' relay won the event, 'A' relay finished second, and 'C' relay finished fourth.
Olivia Frost and Tara Tavoularis swam the 50m breaststroke to a fourth and fifth place finish respectively. On the men's side Dylan Murray and Owen Jibb swam to a fourth and fifth place finish overall.
The 50m butterfly saw Olivia Francis finish second and Katie Cosgriffe finish fifth on the women's side. On the men's side John Ryan won the event with Benjamin Flint and Bryer in fourth and fifth.
Bella Ste. Marie charged to a second-place finish in the 400m IM with Eadaoin McGrath and Katie Marton shortly behind in fourth and fifth respectively.
Next up was the 200m backstroke where Khattab finished fifth overall, while Jibb won the men's event with Carson Pyzer in fourth.
In the 100m breaststroke Frost charged home to a second-place finish.
Francis was back on the podium in the 50m freestyle, touching the wall third overall with Pequin close behind in fifth. While Griffin Oldman finished second with Greg Hayward fourth and Ryan fifth.
Megan Smith kept the Hawks on the podium in the 200m butterfly with a third-place finish while Olivia Williams finished close behind in fourth. On the men's side, Sawyer Kay kept the podium streak alive with a third-place finish overall.
In the 100m freestyle, Francis made her third individual podium finish when she hit the wall in second place overall. On the men's side Oldman won the event with Callum MacGregor in fourth and Andy Jiang in fifth.
Cosgriffe made her second podium appearance with a second-place finish in the 50m backstroke with Emma Young and Ste. Marie close behind in fourth and fifth respectively. On the men's side Tyler Greenwood and Pyzer went one-two in the event
Next up was the women's 800m freestyle where first year Hannah Thompson finished third overall in the second fastest time in Laurier history. On the men's side Owen Jibb won the event in the second fastest time in Laurier history, and the fastest time in Laurier history if the 800m splits in the 1500m freestyle race are ignored. While Jacob Wahba and Liam Telky finished third and fourth.
The mixed 4x50m medley relay was in the middle of the meet, the Hawk's 'A' relay finished third, and 'B' relay sixth.
McGrath found the podium in the 200m IM with a third-place finish, while Aleesha Tejani and Smith finished fourth and fifth respectively. The Hawks' twelve event podium streak was snapped in the men's 200m IM, but Flint charged to a fifth-place finish.
Ste. Marie got the Hawks back on the podium with a third-place finish in the 100m backstroke with Alex Lett close behind in fifth. While Bryer and Pyzer went one-two while Alec Elliot finished fourth.
In the 400m freestyle Addison Card won the event in the fourth fastest 400m freestyle time in Laurier history. Williams finished third overall and Katarina Brezovan finished fourth. In the men's 400m freestyle, Greenwood and Daniel Romagnoli went one-two.
In the 200m breaststroke Frost touched the wall second for the women and Ryan touched the wall third for the men.
Cosgriffe Soared to a first-place finish in the 100m butterfly, while Lett finished fourth and Tejani finished fifth. On the men's side, Bryer won the event, and Caleb Johnston was third overall.
Card topped the podium for the second time in the night in the 200m freestyle while Thompson finished fifth overall. On the men's side George Radic and Oldman went one-two in the 200m freestyle.
The last event of the night was the 4x100m medley relay, the women's 'A' relay finished second, 'B' relay fifth and 'C' relay sixth. The men's 'A' relay finished second, 'B' relay third and 'C' relay seventh.
