DAY THREE RECAP: Zulian looks back on Golden Hawks career, Bevan looks to team's future

KOMOKA, Ont. - It hasn't been the week Lauren Bevan was hoping for at the Canadian University/College championship, presented by BDO but she walked off the final green on Thursday with a renewed sense of confidence.

"Yesterday was rough, but today I just thought about the team and how I can help them and how I can help myself."

Bevan's score of 82 means she finishes the tournament tied for twenty-third on the individual leaderboard. Her 75-shot first round was the sixth lowest score that day.

"Yes, 75 was a good one. And I know I can do that. I've just got to get out of my own head and know that I can shoot that low score, and that I'm capable."

The women's team unfortunately missed the cut and will not play in Friday's final round. While disappointed have their tournament ended early, Bevan is more than optimistic about the program's future.

"I'm super excited. I love everybody. I can't wait to see who our fourth [competing player] will be. Next year our goal is to make it to nationals and not to get in via wild card. At least that's my goal for us, and I know we can do it."

The notable absence next season will be that of graduating student-athlete Sam Zulian, a member of the team since 2017.

"Sam is our mom. That's the best way I can describe it. Everybody calls her mom. It's going to be so different without her," said Bevan.

"I know that I rely on her all the time, just if I'm ever concerned or need any help ... I know that we're all going to miss her so much, but I'm excited for her future and what she's going to do and I only wish her the best."

"Playing as a Golden Hawk for six years has been a wild ride, with COVID and everything in between, welcoming new players, seeing others graduate, it's been great" said Zulian. "I'm really happy to have played this week. It wasn't what we wanted it to be, but golf will keep you humble."
