WATERLOO, Ont. - Golden Hawks Olivea Pope and Dayton Price are the Laurier Athletes of the Week, presented by The Hawk Shop.Â
Pope, a third-year political science major from Port Elgin, Ont., claimed individual bronze at the OUA golf championships over the weekend. Â
It was her second bronze of the season, and her first at the conference championships, marking her highest finish at an OUA championship.  Â
The former women's golf team Rookie of the Year shot seven total birdies through two days. She finished the first round with a 74 (+2), and in the second round she shot an 80 (+8). Both scores were personal highs. Â
"Olivea's bronze medal at the OUA Championships is a fantastic achievement and a reflection of her steady improvement over the past three years," head coach Jeff Colley said. Â
"Her dedication and hard work have truly paid off, and this finish is well-deserved."Â
Price, a first-year communications studies major from Hamilton, Ont., led the Golden Hawks men's golf team to their first OUA championship title since 2019.Â
He shot a 70 (-2) in the first round and followed that up with a 68 (-4) on day two, and claimed individual gold. This was the first individual gold for a Laurier men's golfer since Jaron Brown in 2019. Â
"Dayton's individual championship win highlights his incredible perseverance and the relentless effort he's put into his game," Colley said. Â
"Dayton had an incredible season and capped it off with a brilliant performance at the OUA Championships."Â
"This group has been through some heart-breaking defeats in past OUA Championships, so to see them finally capture that gold medal was a great moment. This group is very special and I am excited to see what they can do at the National Championships in the spring."Â Â Â
Price now has four podium finishes on the season, and three consecutive gold medals. Â
This was Pope's first career Laurier Athlete of the Week award, and Price's third of the season. Â
