WATERLOO, Ont. - Golden Hawks Sasha Marikano and Dayton Price are the Laurier Athletes of the Week, presented by The Hawk Shop.
Marikano, a fifth-year psychology major from Kitchener, Ont., had a dominant weekend for the Golden Hawks women's soccer team against Algoma.
She had missed the majority of the season due to injury, but has made up for lost time in the four games she has played. On Saturday, Marikano had two assists to mark her first career multi-assist game en route to a 4-0 win.
On Sunday for the team's Senior Day, Marikano netted two goals for the purple and gold for a final score of 4-0, and also earned her third career multi-goal game.
Marikano's four-point weekend helped the Golden Hawks to back-to-back shutouts and picked up six crucial points.
Price, a first-year communications studies major from Hamilton, Ont., put on another impressive performance for the Laurier men's golf team at the two-day Windsor Invitational.
In the first round, Price shot a 72 (+1) with two birdies on the front nine and was very consistent with making par on the back half.
The final round saw Price shoot a 63 (-8), which was the second lowest score of the field, with an impressive six birdies, one eagle, and no bogies. The rookie's 63 marked the lowest individual score in Laurier golf's program history.
Price earned himself back-to-back first place finishes after having won gold at Monday's Guelph Gryphons Invitational. He also led the team to their second straight gold medal and fourth podium finish this season.
This was Marikano's and Price's second Athlete of the Week award.
