ST. THOMAS, Ont. – Just a few months since they competed in last season's national championship, Laurier's women's golf team kept the momentum going with a second-place finish at the season-opening Western men's and women's invitational.
The foursome of
Lauren Bevan,
Kristi Godkin,
Sam Zulian, and
Vanessa Lin combined for a shot total of 242, which was just three behind the winners (and host) Mustangs.
Adding to the lustre of the podium finish was Bevan securing an individual silver medal. The third-year business major from Pickering, Ont. shot a 76 in the one-day event, coming into the clubhouse just five strokes behind gold medalist Lexie McKay of Western.
After securing an OUA silver medal last season, the Golden Hawks men's team left St. Thomas Golf and Country Club with a strong fourth-place result.
The 302-shot total for the group of
Aaron Petro,
Jonathan Cramton,
Sebastian Rojas,
Julian Crupi, and
Adam Brenton was just one shot behind the third-place finishers from Western.
Individually, Petro (73) and Cramton (74) both came away with top five results, finishing tied for fourth and fifth place, respectively.
Both teams will look to build on the positive start to the season on Monday, September 19 at the McMaster Men's and Women's Invitational. Tee time is set for 11 am at King's Forest Golf Club in Hamilton.
