WATERLOO, Ont. - Despite a 1-3 start to the season, Laurier football held steady at #9 in the latest U SPORTS football rankings released Monday.
The Golden Hawks collected 32 total points in this week's national poll, earning two points from the national media panel and 30 through the U SPORTS Elo rating system.
The U SPORTS football rankings combine results from the national media poll and the Elo rating system, with each accounting for 50 per cent of a team's total score. The Elo model adjusts rankings after every game based on the result, strength of opponent and expected outcome.
Laurier maintained its position from last week's poll and remains one of four Ontario University Athletics (OUA) programs ranked nationally, joining Western (#3), Queen's (#4), and McMaster (#8).
Montreal remained the unanimous #1 team in the country at 3-0, while Laval and Western rounded out the top three. Queen's climbed one spot to fourth, Saskatchewan moved up to fifth, and McMaster stayed eighth after extending its undefeated start to 4-0.
The Golden Hawks will look to get back in the win column this Saturday when they host the 1-2 York Lions in their annual Homecoming game at University Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m., with fans able to catch the action live on OUA.tv.
