Golden Hawks football ranked #9 nationally heading into Week 4

This Golden Hawks National Rankings Update is presented by Westpoint Sports.

WATERLOO, Ont. – Despite a hard-fought loss to the Ottawa Gee-Gees in Week 3, Laurier football checked in at #9 in the latest U SPORTS football rankings released Monday.

The Golden Hawks earned 35 total points in this week's poll, including three from the national media panel and 32 through the U SPORTS Elo rating system.

The U SPORTS football rankings combine results from the national media poll and the Elo rating system, with each accounting for 50 per cent of a team's total score. The Elo model adjusts rankings after every game based on the result, strength of opponent and expected outcome.

Laurier dropped four spots from #5 after falling 35-26 to the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Saturday at University Stadium.

The Gee-Gees improved to 3-0 with the victory and entered the national rankings at #10 for the first time this season.

Despite the setback, Laurier remains one of five Ontario University Athletics (OUA) programs ranked nationally, joining Western (#3), Queen's (#5), and McMaster (#8).

Montreal retained the #1 ranking, while Laval and Western rounded out the top three.

The Golden Hawks will look to bounce back in Week 4 as they travel to Ron Joyce Stadium in Hamilton this Saturday to face the first-place Marauders.

Kick-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. Catch it live on OUA.tv
