WATERLOO, Ont. - After seeing their 17-game regular season win streak come to an end with a road loss to the Windsor Lancers on Sunday, the Laurier Golden Hawks are recognizing three standout performers whose efforts helped keep the game within reach.
Here are the Laurier football Players of the Week, presented by Nothers The Award Store.
OFFENCE
Ryan Hughes – Wide Receiver
Hughes delivered his most productive outing of the season, eclipsing the 100-yard receiving mark for the first time in 2026 while leading all players with 12 receptions for 123 yards and two touchdowns.
The fourth-year athlete from Mississauga, Ont., recorded the fifth multi-touchdown game of his OUA career and established a new regular season career high with 123 receiving yards. His consistent production helped drive the Golden Hawks' offence throughout the afternoon.
This is Hughes' fourth career Player of the Week award.
DEFENCE
Owen Goetz – Defensive Back
Goetz continued his strong start to the season, recording an interception in a second consecutive game.
The fourth-year communications major from Kitchener returned his interception 33 yards late in the first quarter and added a solo tackle and a pass break-up. His playmaking ability in the secondary helped Laurier create a key defensive turnover and provided an early spark for the Golden Hawks.
This is Goetz's second Player of the Week award.
SPECIAL TEAMS
Tayshaun Jackson – Running Back/Returner
Jackson once again produced one of the most electrifying plays of the game on special teams.
The Windsor, Ont., native recorded a missed field goal return touchdown for a second consecutive game, this time racing 128 yards to the end zone to set a new Laurier program record. The return is tied for the second-longest missed field goal return touchdown in both OUA and U SPORTS history.
In addition to his work in the return game, Jackson added five carries for 32 rushing yards.
This is Jackson's ninth Player of the Week honour.
SCOUT TEAM
The Laurier football scout team Players of the Week are Hayden Buczek (QB) on offense and Hudson Shea (DL) on defence.
