GUELPH, Ont. - The Golden Hawks men's golf team opened its 2026 campaign with a third-place finish Friday at the Guelph Fall Kickoff at Guelph Lakes Golf and Country Club.
The defending OUA champions carded a team score of 292, finishing six strokes behind the tournament-winning Brock Badgers and four shots back of the host Waterloo Warriors.

Matthew Whitehead led the Golden Hawks with a two-under-par 69, earning a share of third place in a four-way tie on the individual leaderboard.
Last season's OUA individual champion, Dayton Price, opened his season with a 75 to finish tied for 27th, while teammate Nathan Procter shot 76.
On the women's side, Laurier placed eighth in the nine-team field.
Olivea Pope was the Golden Hawks' top finisher, ending the day 28th overall. Alicia Cromack and Alessia Lorimer each finished four shots behind Pope.
Friday's event marked the start of a busy stretch for the Golden Hawks. Laurier returns to action on Sunday, September 20, at the Brock Invitational at Sawmill Golf Course in Fenwick before competing at the Western Invitational on Monday, September 21.
