WATERLOO, Ont. - Golden Hawks Ashley Greco and Tayshaun Jackson are the Laurier Athletes of the Week.
Greco, a third-year kinesiology & physical education major from Vaughan, Ont., delivered a standout performance to help the Laurier women's soccer team open the 2026 season with a 4-2 victory over the Windsor Lancers on Sunday.
The midfielder and team captain recorded a game-high three points, scoring on a spectacular free kick while adding two assists. Greco also played all 90 minutes in the season-opening win, putting in a tireless box-to-box performance. She covered significant ground throughout the match, won numerous battles in midfield, created turnovers, and played a key role at both ends of the pitch.
Jackson, a third-year geography major from Windsor, Ont., was instrumental in leading the #4-ranked Laurier football team to a 33-28 season-opening victory over the Guelph Gryphons.
The running back rushed for a game-high 105 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries while adding 14 receiving yards. Jackson also produced one of the most electrifying plays of the weekend, returning a missed 51-yard field goal attempt 120 yards for a touchdown to tie the game early in the second quarter.
The return marked the second 120-yard missed field goal return touchdown of Jackson's career, having first accomplished the feat against Windsor in 2024. He became just the second Golden Hawk in program history to record a 120-yard missed field goal return touchdown, joining Lonny Taylor, who achieved the feat against Western in 1992.
In total, Jackson accumulated 359 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns in his 2026 debut.
This is the second Laurier Athlete of the Week award for Jackson and first for Greco.
