REGINA, Ont. -Â The Golden Hawks men's curling team faced a challenging day three at the 2026 U SPORTS/Curling Canada Championship, dropping both draws at the Callie Curling Club.
Skipped by Kibo Mulima, with vice Landan Rooney, second Wyatt Small and lead Wyatt Wright, the defending national champions opened the day against the Calgary Dinos and fell 7-5 in a tightly contested battle.
The Golden Hawks started strong with singles in the first and second ends to take early control.
Calgary responded with two in the third, but Laurier answered with a deuce in the fourth to move back in front 4-2.
The Dinos shifted momentum in the fifth with a pair and continued to apply pressure through the latter half of the game, adding singles in the sixth and eighth.
Laurier managed one in the sixth and stayed within striking distance, but Calgary closed out the win in the final end.
In the evening draw, Laurier squared off with the Memorial Sea-Hawks and came up just short in a 6-5 decision.
After four blank ends to open the game, Memorial broke through with three in the fifth.
Laurier responded with singles in the sixth and seventh to cut into the deficit.
The Sea-Hawks added another point in the eighth, and while Laurier continued to generate offence late, Memorial held on for the narrow victory.
With the pair of losses, Laurier sits fifth in the standings at 2-3 through five games. The Golden Hawks must finish in the top four to qualify for Saturday's semifinals.
Laurier closes out round-robin play Thursday morning against the Dalhousie Tigers (1-4) before meeting the unbeaten Carleton Ravens (6-0) in the afternoon session — a rematch of the OUA gold medal game.
