WATERLOO, Ont. -Â The Laurier Golden Hawks women's rugby team snapped a two-game losing skid in emphatic fashion on Saturday, blanking the Trent Excalibur 58-0 in a midday clash at University Stadium in Waterloo.
The win marked Laurier's third straight head-to-head victory over Trent and leveled their season record at 2-2.
Laurier wasted little time asserting control, building a 22-0 advantage by halftime.
The offensive onslaught continued through the second half, with the Golden Hawks piling on points and keeping the Excalibur off the scoreboard throughout.
Third-year standout Sadie Moorhouse, rookie
Abigail Tape, and 2024 OUA second-team all-star
Abby Byers each crossed the try line twice.
Natalie Madill, last season's team MVP
Kaia Grant, and rookies
Hailey Holgate and
Cait Croft each added a single try in the match.
Faith Peev, a third-year kinesiology & physical education major from Elmira, Ont., contributed three successful converts to cap the team's scorers.
The timely victory will also help build momentum for next weekend's highly anticipated Battle of Waterloo match-up. The Golden Hawks will face the Waterloo Warriors at Columbia Ice Field 1 on Sunday, September 28 at 4 p.m. aiming to snap a three-game slide against their cross-town rivals in the team's final regular season road game.
