WATERLOO, Ont. – The Golden Hawks women's rugby team continued its strong start to the season in historic fashion on Saturday, routing the York Lions 67-0 at University Stadium. The 67-point victory established a new program record for largest margin of victory, eclipsing the previous mark of 63 points against Waterloo in 2017.
The win also came in Laurier's first meeting with York since last season's OUA quarterfinal, where the Golden Hawks eliminated the Lions.
Laurier controlled the match from start to finish, scoring 12 tries and four conversions while holding York off the scoreboard for the full 80 minutes.
Lauren Cohoon opened the scoring 7:20 into the first half, finishing off sustained Golden Hawks pressure to give the hosts a 5-0 lead. Sadie Moorehouse crossed the line just over 13 minutes later before Kyra Walker added the conversion to make it 12-0.
The Golden Hawks extended their advantage midway through the opening half when a York infringement resulted in a penalty try, pushing the score to 19-0.
Natalie Madill then took over the attack, recording a pair of tries in the closing minutes of the half. Walker converted the first of Madill's majors as Laurier carried a commanding 31-0 lead into the break.
Laurier showed no signs of slowing down after halftime.
Bridget Maxwell opened the second-half scoring less than three minutes after the restart, with Walker adding another conversion. Cait Croft followed with a try of her own before Jessica Igbinoba crossed the line to stretch the lead to 48-0.
Hunter Fraser added Laurier's ninth try of the afternoon midway through the half. Following Walker's third conversion, the Golden Hawks held a 55-0 advantage.
Moorehouse recorded her second try of the day with just over 15 minutes remaining, joining Madill as the lone Hawks with multiple tries. Walker then capped an outstanding performance by scoring a try of her own in the dying minutes before converting it to complete the scoring at 67-0.
Madill and Moorehouse each finished with two tries, while Walker contributed 11 points through a try and six conversions.

Laurier (2-1) will look to build on Saturday's victory when the Golden Hawks travel to Alumni Field in London on Friday night for a matchup against the Western Mustangs (3-0). Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
