WATERLOO, Ont. -Â The Laurier Golden Hawks men's rugby team opened their 2025 home campaign in spectacular fashion, routing the York Lions 103-3 under the lights at University Stadium in Waterloo.
Laurier raced to a commanding 41-0 advantage by halftime, setting the tone for what would become one of the most dominant performances in program history.
Rookie
Jack Gore, a communications major from Mississauga, Ont., led the offensive onslaught, racking up 28 points on two tries and nine converts.
Finn Hughes - last year's team rookie of the year and MVP -
Drew McQueen, and
Aedan Wiltshire each crossed the try line twice as Laurier's attack proved relentless.
York managed to avoid the shutout with a penalty goal just before full-time.
The Golden Hawks' 103-point outburst marks just the third time in the past 25 seasons they have scored more than 100 points in a game.
Fittingly, the last century-mark performance also came against York, nearly two years ago to the day, in a 109-5 victory.
The win extends Laurier's streak over the Lions to five straight matches.
Up Next:
Now sitting at 2-0, the Golden Hawks will look to keep their momentum going when they travel to Kingston to face the RMC Paladins next Saturday, September 27. Laurier has won each of the last four meetings with RMC.
Kick-off at Inner Field is set for 3 pm.
