PETERBOROUGH, Ont. — The Laurier Golden Hawks punched their ticket to the OUA rugby playoffs with a decisive 41-7 victory over the Trent Excalibur on Friday night at Justin Chiu Stadium.
The win secured Laurier's third postseason appearance in the past four years and marked a milestone for the program. For the first time since the OUA introduced a six-game schedule, the Golden Hawks have opened the season with four consecutive wins.
Laurier started 6-0 back in 2006 before losing its final two matches when the league had an expanded eight-game schedule.
Zach Berrill and
Wyatt Brown powered the attack with two tries apiece.
Maxwell Naubur,
Drew McQueen, and
Jack Gore each added solo tries. Gore also contributed three converts, leading all scorers with 11 points.
Laurier now sits two wins away from its first undefeated season in program history.
The Golden Hawks will look to keep the streak alive when they host the Toronto Varsity Blues next Saturday at University Stadium. Laurier has dominated the series, winning the last eight meetings and dropping only one match to Toronto since 2000.
Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. Admission is free.
