Jordan Keizs scored two tries as the Laurier Golden Hawks men's rugby team earned a 29-19 victory over the Brock Badgers on Sunday afternoon at Brock Alumni Field.
The victory extended Laurier's win streak to three games, improving their record to 3-1 on the season.
Devonne Henry opened the scoring in the 19th minute, touching down for the game's first try to give Laurier a 5-0 lead.Â
Keizs extended the advantage in the 33rd minute, helping the visitors build a 10-0 cushion.
Brock responded with a try six minutes later to cut the deficit in half, but Laurier answered just before the break when
Ali Reda crossed the line in the 42nd minute.Â
Jack Gore converted the try to send the Golden Hawks into halftime with a 17-7 lead.
The Golden Hawks continued to control play in the second half. Gavin Say added a try in the 60th minute before the Badgers responded four minutes later to make it 22-12.
Keizs delivered the decisive blow in the 72nd minute, recording his second try of the afternoon just eight minutes after
Vyaz Jetha had restarted the Laurier scoring machine.Â
Brock added a late try in the final minute, but Laurier's defence held firm.
Heading into their final two regular season games, the Golden Hawks sit third in the OUA standings.Â
They will face one of the two teams ahead of them, the five-time defending OUA champion Guelph Gryphons, on a short week this Friday, October 9, at Varsity Field at 7 pm. Â
