WATERLOO, Ont. - The Golden Hawks women's rugby team have their sights set forward on the upcoming campaign as the OUA announced the 2025 season schedule.
For the fifth straight year, the Golden Hawks will take to the road for the season opener when they head to Toronto on Saturday, August 30 for the 11th all-time match-up against the York Lions, with the start-time slated for 4pm.
On Saturday, September 6, Knight-Newbrough Field will see its first rugby action as the Golden Hawks host the Western Mustangs for the home opener at noon in what is a rematch of last year's home opening game.
The following Saturday, the Laurier squad heads to Steeltown for a game under the lights against the McMaster Marauders, marking the tenth all-time match-up.
This two-game span looks to be Laurier's toughest stretch of the season. The Golden Hawks have not beaten the Mustangs since 2019, the only win against Western over 23 games. Laurier also does not have much luck against the Marauders with an 0-9 record.
The purple and gold are back in Waterloo on Saturday, September 20 for a noon-time kick-off against the Trent Excalibur. Laurier currently rides a two-game winning streak over their opponents with their only win of the 2024 season coming against the Excalibur in the season finale.
On Sunday, September 28, the Golden Hawks take a short ride down University Avenue to visit the Waterloo Warriors and reignite the Battle of Waterloo. The 2024 season saw the cross-town rivals left off each other's schedules, but there will be no love lost between the two when the first whistle blows at 4pm.
The Golden Hawks are back home on Saturday, October 4 when the Toronto Varsity Blues come to town for the sixth and final game of the regular season. The match also marks Senior Day to celebrate the contributions of the graduating student-athletes to the program. Kick-off is set for noon.
Attendance to all games is free.
