WATERLOO, Ont. - Laurier's women's rugby team closed out their regular season in style Saturday, powering past the Toronto Varsity Blues 49–7 on Senior Day at University Stadium.
The victory also secured a home playoff game for their upcoming OUA quarterfinal.
Laurier's offence was firing on all cylinders from the opening whistle, as the Golden Hawks spread the scoring across the lineup. Tries came from Jessica Igbinoba, Abigail Tape, and Mic Ferreri, with Cait Croft, Bridget Maxwell, and Natalie Madill each adding a pair to round out the dominant performance.
The Golden Hawks' backline speed and ball movement proved too much for the Varsity Blues to handle, while the defensive unit kept Toronto to a single try on the afternoon.
With the win, Laurier finishes the regular season at 4-2 - marking the first time since 2005 they have reached that win total in conference play.
The #4-seed Golden Hawks will host a quarterfinal match-up against the #5-seed York Lions on Saturday, October 11 at University Stadium. Game time is set for 3:30 pm.Â
The winner of that game will move on to face the #1-ranked Queen's Gaels in Kingston.
