WATERLOO, Ont. - Golden Hawks Lucy Doan and Cal Wither are the Laurier Athletes of the Week, presented by The Hawk Shop.
Doan, a first-year political science major from St. Thomas, Ont., helped the women's rugby team snap a three-game losing streak against the Waterloo Warriors on Sunday, winning the Battle of Waterloo 40-17.
Head coach Eric Ciezar said the rookie lock was tenacious on both sides of the ball, with her defensive performance helping to limit the Warriors to their second lowest point total this season.
With the win, Doan and the Golden Hawks also secured an OUA playoff spot for the first time since 2018.
Wither had another huge performance on Saturday's Homecoming game in the three quarters he played. He was 27-34 with 384 passing yards – his second straight game surpassing the 300-yard mark – three passing touchdowns and one rushing, and no interceptions.
The Waterloo native is now first in the OUA in completion percent (74.3%), total yards passing (1,805) and passing yards per game (300.8), passing touchdowns (18), and pass efficiency (193.0).
This is the first Laurier Athlete of the Week award for both Doan and Wither.
