WATERLOO, Ont. -- Coming off a down year, the Laurier men's rugby team is looking to rebound as the OUA released the 2025 season schedule.
The slate looks a little bit different this year with four teams being replaced by new combatants. During the regular season, the Golden Hawks will not play the Brock Badgers, Guelph Gryphons, Queen's Gaels, and Western Mustangs after seeing them in 2024.
The season gets underway when the Golden Hawks head to Hamilton to face the McMaster Marauders on Saturday, September 6, marking the fourth time in five years that the team will open the season on the road.
The Golden Hawks have a week two bye before playing their home opener on Knight-Newbrough Field on Friday, September 19 against the York Lions. It will be only the sixth all-time matchup between the teams with the Golden Hawks taking four of five, including a massive 105-5 win in 2023. Kick-off is set for 7pm.
Weeks four and five see the Golden Hawks go on their longest road trip of the year, visiting the RMC Paladins on Saturday, September 27, looking to extend their four-game winning streak. Laurier then travels to Peterborough to face the Trent Excalibur on Friday, October 3.
The Golden Hawks are back home on Saturday, October 11 for a noontime start against the Toronto Varsity Blues. The teams have not seen each other since 2022, but Laurier is riding an eight-game winning streak with a 16-3 record.
On Saturday, October 18, the regular season comes to a close in a Battle of Waterloo showdown as the Waterloo Warriors visit the Golden Hawks. Last season, Laurier's four-point loss snapped a five-game winning streak against the Warriors that included back-to-back OUA quarterfinal wins in 2022 and 2023.
The match will also be Laurier's Senior Day to celebrate the contributions of the graduating student-athletes. The game is set to begin at noon.
