Cosgriffe, Elliot qualify for 2025 World Para Swimming Championships

WATERLOO, Ont. -- Two Golden Hawks swimmers have been selected to represent Team Canada at the 2025 Toyota World Para Swimming Championships in Singapore from September 21-27, 2025.

First-year Golden Hawk Katie Cosgriffe earned her spot on Team Canada's roster after an impressive 2025 Bell Canadian Swimming Trials swimming for the Oakville Aquatic Club.

"One of Katie's goals this season was to be named to the World Para Championships in Singapore at the end of September. Watching her achieve it at the Canadian Trials was exciting," said Laurier swimming's head coach Cathy Pardy, who was in attendance at the qualifiers in Victoria, BC.

Cosgriffe, swimming in the S10 classification, competed in the 100m freestyle, backstroke, butterfly, and 200m individual medley, finishing on the podium in each of her events with three first-place finishes and one third-place finish.

She made her Paralympic debut competing in the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games where she brought home a bronze medal in the S10 100m butterfly.

"Following the Paralympic Games, she was able to put everything together and qualify for the World Para Championships. I'm proud of her," Pardy said.

In her first OUA season, the Laurier women's swim team's Rookie of the Year set three Canadian Para records at the Dean Boles Divisional Championship (50m and 100m fly, 50m backstroke), and made two new world S10 markers at the OUA Championships (100m back, 200m fly).

Joining her in Singapore is returning Golden Hawk Alec Elliot.

Swimming for the Region of Waterloo Swim Club at the Canadian Trials in the S10 classification, Elliot placed first in the 400m freestyle and second in the 100m butterfly, respectively.

Elliot competed in his third Paralympic Games at the 2024 Paris event and also swam on Team Canada with Cosgriffe in the 2023 World Championships.

"I have been fortunate to coach Alec this year and help him put together a performance at the Canadian Trials to qualify for the World Para Championships," Pardy said.

"Now he's one part into the celebration of making the national team. The other part will come in Singapore."

This will be Cosgriffe's second World Championships while Elliot competes in his third.
