TORONTO, Ont. – The Golden Hawk swim team travelled to the University of Toronto to get experience swimming in their pool before the 2025 U SPORTS swimming championship which is being hosted by the Varsity Blues. Â
The first swimmer to crack the top 16 was Owen Jibb with a 4th place finish in the 200m backstroke. Â
The Hawks soared in the 50m freestyle with Olivia Francis finishing fourth on the women's side while Daniel Romagnoli and John Ryan finished 14th and 16th respectively for the men. Â
The Hawks were golden in the 100m breaststroke with Kent Goni Avila finishing first in the event, while Kelton Langman was 11th. Â
Jibb kept the Hawks Golden in the 200m butterfly with his first-place finish, Tyler Greenwood was right behind in second. While Romagnoli finished fifth, William Bryer eighth, and Sawyer Kay 12th. Â
In the 50m backstroke, Emma Young finished sixth overall. Â
Francis found the podium in the 100m freestyle with a third-place finish overall. While Jacob Wahba finished 15th on the men's side. Â
Goni Avila was golden again in the 50m breaststroke, sweeping the sprint breaststroke events. Dylan Thomas was close behind in fourth, while Jibb finished 10th. Â
Wahba was the lone Hawk in the 400 IM where he raced to a seventh-place finish overall. Â
In the 100m butterfly Francis finished fifth overall, while Megan Smith finished 11th. On the men's side Greenwood finished ninth, and Langman finished 14th overall. Â
The Hawks attacked in the 100m backstroke with Simrit Grewal and Katie Cosgriffe finishing side-by-side in fifth and sixth, respectively. While Morgan Pequin and Young also finished side-by-side in 12th and 13th respectively. On the men's side Connor Cartier finished 15th overall. Â
In the 200m freestyle, Katarina Brezovan and Kaitlin Couillard finished 13th and 14th overall on the women's side. While on the men's side Wahba finished eighth, Romagnoli ninth, Cezar Hirsescu 12th and Langman 13th overall. Â
In the 200m freestyle Goni Avila chose to swim a 200m IM and finished just off the team record in 2:03.66 which was fast enough to be 13th overall. Â
The Hawks are back in the water January 24 and 25 at the Toronto Grand Prix, hosted by the University of Toronto.Â
