WATERLOO, Ont. -
Kent Goni Avila is heading across the pond.
After becoming the first Laurier men's swimmer to win an individual medal - a bronze - at the U SPORTS swimming championships in 25 years, it was announced that he would be part of the U SPORTS team of top Canadian varsity swimmers heading to Great Britain this summer to compete in an international dual meet against the England University All-Star Team. Â
The competition, set for July 3-4, 2025, will feature a U SPORTS Canadian All-Star Team composed of the top two eligible Canadian finishers in each event from the recently completed U SPORTS Swimming Championships in Toronto.
Goni Avila, as part of the 40-swimmer roster, will compete in the 200m IM along with McGill's Loic Courville-Fortin.
"We're excited for Kent to have this experience," said Laurier swimming head coach
Cathy Pardy. "It's a small percentage of student-athletes who get this opportunity and we are so proud of him going after his goals and continuing to succeed.
