Day 4 Recap: Undefeated run ends but Golden Hawks set for semis against UNB

LETHBRIDGE, Ont. - With a semifinal spot already clinched, the undefeated run through the round robin came to end on Thursday for Laurier's men's curling team at the U SPORTS/Curling Canada University Championship.

In the day's opening draw against Calgary, the Dinos scored four in the third and held off a late rally by Laurier to take the game 6-5, ending the Golden Hawks' unbeaten run.

Later in the day against Memorial, the Sea-Hawks were able to hang on late to upset the Golden Hawks 6-3.

Trailing 4-3 in the eighth with hammer and looking to secure top spot themselves and eliminate the Sea-Hawks via tiebreakers in the process, the Golden Hawks (5-2, 2nd place) had an open opportunity for a draw to the button to force an extra end.

But the top team at the Championship this week elected to play a run-double for the win and missed, to hand Memorial the unexpected victory.

Laurier will now take on the AUS sliver-medalist University of New Brunswick on Friday morning, whom they beat in a back-and-forth tournament opener.

Fans can watch the draw live on Curling Canada's YouTube page beginning at 11:30am EST.
