WATERLOO, Ont. - Golden Hawks Abby Byers and Nolan Kuhlberg are the Laurier Athletes of the Week, presented by The Hawk Shop, for the week ending February 23, 2025.
Byers, from Wooolwich, Ont., ran very well at the OUA track & field championships in Windsor.
She was a crucial member of both the women's 4 x 200m relay, which placed seventh in a new program record time, and the 4 x 400m relay.
Additionally, the second-year arts major ran in the 60m race, finishing 13th with a best time of 7.80.
Byers, a dual athlete who also played on Laurier's women's rugby team the past two seasons, also was the women's team's top finisher in the 300m, coming in 12th in an excellent time of 41.94 seconds.
Kuhlberg, from Sudbury, Ont., ran in four events at the OUA championships.
He was the anchor on both the men's 4 x 400m team (new school record time) and 4 x 800 teams.
He also ran an excellent 600m, breaking the program record in the 600m with an excellent time of 1:22.34 to finish in 13th.
The first-year biochem/biotech major rounded-out his competition with a 15th place result in the 1,000m event.
This is the first Laurier Athlete of the Week award for both Byers and Kuhlberg.
