LONDON, Ont. - The Golden Hawks track and field team delivered a series of standout performances over the weekend, winning three of four relay events and breaking three school records during the 50th annual Bob Vigars Meet in London as athletes continued to push for spots on the final varsity roster.
Laurier's strongest showing at Western's Thompson Arena may have come in the lone relay they didn't win.
The men's 4x400m team battled Western throughout a back-and-forth race that featured at least three lead changes before the Mustangs edged ahead late.
The Golden Hawks quartet of Finn Moore, Nathan Hehn, Chad Thorpe and Nolan Kuhlberg still set a program record, with their converted time listed at 3:19.49.
The women's 4x400m squad matched that performance with its own school record. Abby Byers, Ciahan Malone, Anisha Sabree and Alyssa Zinn posted a converted time of 3:56.76, an impressive mark for this early in the season.
Laurier swept both 4x200m races. The women's team of Neve Rye, Sarah McKie, Dani Agbonaye and D'yana Davis stopped the clock at 1:49.52, while the men's group of Declan DiFrangia, Miles Gulas, Kymani Allen and Sise Aroloye established another school record with a converted time of 1:29.84.
Middle-distance results also highlighted the day. Five Laurier women ran under 5:10 in the 1,500m, led by Zinn, who won the race. Piper Lafayette, Maya Robinson, Alice Roy and Tegan Ceccanese followed closely behind. In the women's 1,000m, top cross-country runner Nicole Scindler placed third in 3:04.01.

On the men's side, coaches praised Tyler Klazek, who led nearly the entire 1,500m race and finished in a solid early-season time of 4:16.82.
In field events, Laurier posted encouraging early-season results in long jump, with Rye, McKie and Aroloye all recording strong marks.
The Golden Hawks capped the meet with another school record in the men's 300m, where Gulas posted a converted time just under 36 seconds. Allen followed as Laurier's second-fastest finisher, while Agbonaye led the women's side with a 45.1 performance.
Laurier's next meet will be the Can Am Classic, hosted by the Windsor Lancers, from January 9-10 at the Dennis Fairall Fieldhouse.
