OTTAWA, Ont. -Â The Golden Hawks finished their two-game road trip to the nation's capital on Saturday when they faced the #5-ranked Ottawa Gee-Gees. The 2024-25 Wilson Cup champions and U SPORTS bronze medalists were dominant, handing Laurier their second straight loss at 102-64.Â
It was a homecoming of sorts for Ottawa native and Gee-Gees transfer Liban Abdalla, making his return to Montpetit Hall. In the first quarter, Abdalla had a team high eight points, and he was strong from distance, going 2-4 in the frame. Â
Abdalla forced the turnover and sent the Golden Hawks in transition where rookie Malik Langenegger swung out to Jeremy Rudnick for three, and then at the buzzer Rudnick hit the jumper to end the quarter as Ottawa led 25-20.Â
Like the previous night against the #8 Carleton Ravens, the Golden Hawks got themselves into foul trouble in the second quarter and dropped to 36.4% field goal shooting from 41.2% in the first. The Gee-Gees took advantage, going 7-11 from the line.Â
Ottawa closed out the half on a 12-0 run and went up by 20 points at 52-32. Â
The Golden Hawks continued to struggle in the second half. Every shot the purple and gold managed to get was reciprocated, and some, as the Gee-Gees were red hot from three-point range, shooting 53.1% to Laurier's 18.9%.Â
The Golden Hawks have dropped back-to-back for the first time this season and slide to 4-3 overall. It was the first time since the 2015-16 season that the Gee-Gees have scored 100 points against the Golden Hawks, and was the largest margin of victory for Ottawa on record. Â
Laurier will look to bounce back against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks on November 21 in Oshawa. Â
