Golden Hawks men's basketball program receives $100K from alum Sandy Nixon

Laurier alum and former basketball student-athlete Sandy Nixon (BA '69) has delivered a $100,000 donation to the men's basketball program to create the Nixon Basketball Student Experience Fund. This fund will directly elevate the student-athlete experience, enhancing training resources, competitive opportunities, and the overall environment in which Laurier athletes learn, grow, and pursue excellence.

"Sandy's timely $100,000 gift is a tremendous investment in the future of Laurier men's basketball," said Ryan Lannan, Laurier's director of athletics and recreation. "We are incredibly grateful not only for this support, but for the pride, passion, and continued connection Sandy shows as an alumnus. His leadership and belief in our program elevate everyone involved and inspire our student-athletes and staff to pursue excellence every day."

Manager of men's basketball operations and head coach Cavell Johnson also highlighted the impact the fund will have on this team.

"We are very grateful for this donation and Sandy's generosity. This gift will help us continue to serve our student-athletes with a standard of excellence, elevate our program, and push each other towards greatness - on and off the court!

"Sandy's commitment to the growth of the program helps ensure that we continue to SOAR together," said Johnson.

With the right support and resources, our Golden Hawks can stay strong, keep competing and reach their full potential. To learn more about donor impact at Laurier, visit give.wlu.ca/impact.
