Laurier cheerleading team wins bronze at ICU University World Cup

ORLANDO, Florida - This past weekend, Laurier's cheerleading team travelled to Orlando, Florida to compete at the International Cheer Union's (ICU) University World Cup. The Golden Hawks finished on the podium yet again, coming away with a bronze medal.

The team competed in an exhibition the day before with a less-than-perfect run. The team's cheer portion was flawless but there were some issues with both pyramids.

Once the judges' comments and deduction sheets were received, the team travelled back to the Wide World of Sports Complex to practice before the day two performance. The athletes came together and refocused on their goal heading into Sunday.

On Sunday, the team performed a beautiful run that gave them a score of 84.10, which was the highest score in their Premier All-Girl Team Cheer division. Due to a time violation, the purple and gold ended with an 81.60, finishing third in the six-team division behind Stony Brook University (USA) who came first and scored 83.90 and Memorial University (Canada) who placed second with a score of 82.30.

Laurier now will revamp their routine heading into the PCA Cheer Canada Collegiate Nationals at the CAA Centre in Brampton on February 17th, beginning at 10 am.
