The Wilfrid Laurier University men's lacrosse team is off to their best start in years. The team currently sits at third in the West division with a record of 4 wins and 3 losses. The team began the year falling to the University of Guelph by a score of 9-6, as the Gryphons were a very skilled squad coming off of a National Championship berth last season.
The purple and gold then went on a winning streak with three straight wins against Laurentian University, University of Toronto, and McMaster University. These wins put the Golden Hawks in a strong position in the standings and created a real buzz around the team.
To finish off the first half, the team played the highly touted Western University Mustangs, one of the top teams in the country. The Golden Hawks went down 5-0 early, but gained momentum in the fourth quarter and finished the game with a narrow 5-4 loss. Over the past weekend, the team lost 4-3 to McMaster, and won 8-7 to Nipissing.
With midfielder
Zachary Gurd leading the team in scoring, the Golden Hawks will look to finish the season strong with their last home game against Brock on October 15, followed by a road trip to play Nipissing and Laurentian. The team has set their sights on the potential to make the playoffs and play the Baggataway Cup.
Come cheer on the men's lacrosse team during the last home game on October 15 at 3pm on Alumni Field.
