REGINA (March 22, 2014) - It was a morning of mixed results for the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks curling teams in the final round robin draw of the 2014 CIS/CCA Curling Championships hosted by the Regina Cougars at the Caledonian Curling Club.
In men's action, the Golden Hawks gave themselves a shot to advance directly to the gold medal game thanks to an 11-3 victory over the Brock Badgers. However, a late comeback by the Manitoba Bisons in their game against the host Cougars clinched them first place in round robin play, sending the Hawks into the semifinals against the Alberta Golden Bears.
As for the Laurier women, they needed a win to keep their chances alive to play for gold. However, the Hawks could not defeat the UPEI Panthers as they dropped a 7-4 decision. The result sends the purple and gold into the semifinals where they will face the Carleton Ravens in a rematch of the OUA Championship.
Both semifinal games will be played on Saturday night at 9 p.m. EDT. The winners of the two games will advance to the gold medal games on Sunday afternoon.
