WATERLOO, Ont. - The
2026 schedule for the Golden Hawks men's soccer season was released by Ontario University Athletics (OUA) on Wednesday.
Laurier opens its 12-game regular season - and its home schedule - on August 30 against the Windsor Lancers, marking the first time since 2014 the Golden Hawks have begun a campaign against the Lancers.
The Golden Hawks then head north for a pair of road games against the Algoma Thunderbirds. Laurier has historically controlled the match-up, entering the season unbeaten in 14 meetings dating back to 2014.
Laurier returns to Waterloo on September 11 to host Highway 7 rival Guelph before quickly travelling to Windsor two days later. The Golden Hawks will then return to Ansley Alumni Field to host the Brock Badgers as part of a busy early-season stretch.
A significant road test awaits September 25 when Laurier travels to Toronto to face the York Lions, last season's OUA finalists, offering an early measuring stick against one of the conference's top teams.
The Golden Hawks follow that fixture with back-to-back home games, including the annual Battle of Waterloo on October 8 under the lights. Laurier has won two of the past three meetings against the Warriors.
Laurier then travels to London to face the Western Mustangs after snapping an eight-game winless drought in the series last season.
Senior Night is set for October 16 against the York Lions, where the program will honour its graduating class in its final home appearance of the regular season.
The Golden Hawks conclude the regular season on the road at the Gryphon Soccer Complex, a venue where they are unbeaten in the last three visits (2-0-1).
Head coach
Mario Halapir said while the schedule presents a range of challenges, much of the team's outlook will depend on how a new-look roster adapts to the OUA level.
"I think it's way harder to make predictions about the season," Halapir said. "We're optimistic. We've got a very good group of recruits coming in, and talent-wise we should be good. The big unknown will be how we deal with it mentally. We have a lot of young players coming in and adjusting to the OUA level of play."
Halapir added that the early part of the season will be key as the team works to find consistency.
"In the beginning, it's really difficult to say what it's going to be like," he said. "But we're enthusiastic and very positive about the potential of the team this year. I think it will be an exciting team to watch and we'll have the ability to play some good football."
