Second half comeback earns Laurier a 2-2 draw with Guelph

GUELPH, Ont. - The Golden Hawks showed resilience and late-game composure on Friday night, battling back from a two-goal deficit to earn a 2–2 draw against the Guelph Gryphons in their final regular season match.

The Gryphons applied pressure early, generating several corner kicks through Ambrose Tinmouth before breaking through in the 36th minute when Jacob Cabral converted from the penalty spot to give Guelph a 1–0 lead heading into halftime.

Laurier looked to shift momentum in the second half, but Guelph extended its advantage in the 48th minute when Tinmouth found the back of the net with his first goal of the season.

Down 2–0, the Hawks responded just ten minutes later. Adriano Colangelo capitalized on a defensive miscue to slot home his first of the year, cutting the deficit to 2–1.

The Hawks continued to push, and their persistence paid off in the 83rd minute. Second-year midfielder Kourosh Jamshidi connected on a finish from Matthew Andree for his first OUA goal, leveling the match at 2–2.

Goalkeeper David Carano kept Laurier in the game throughout, recording multiple key saves to deny Guelph's high-volume attack.

Both sides traded late substitutions and chances, but neither could find a winner as the match ended in a draw.

With the result, Laurier have secured a spot in the OUA quarterfinals and now await the remaining weekend results to determine their match-up, which will be played on the road, on Wednesday night.
