WATERLOO, Ont. - The #1-ranked Golden Hawks took down the #5 Queen's Gaels in a shootout game Friday night, winning 47-32.
Here are the Laurier football Players of the Week, presented by Nothers The Award Store, for the team's win:
OFFENCE
Ethan Jordan – Wide Receiver
Jordan set a new career high on Friday night with an 81-yard catch-and-run touchdown that put the Golden Hawks back in front in the second quarter. This is not unfamiliar to the Golden Hawks especially as Jordan ran for a 71-yard touchdown in week one.
He ended the game with 130 receiving yards on seven receptions and one touchdown. Jordan now sits tied for third in both the conference and U SPORTS in touchdowns, as well as third in the OUA and fifth in U SPORTS in receiving yards per game.
This was Jordan's second Player of the Week recognition this season.
DEFENCE
Paul Loggale – Defensive Back
Loggale stepped up in a massive way against the Gaels. In the third quarter, Loggale jumped on a pass for an interception and returned it 26-yards to the house. He picked up his first career defensive touchdown.
The third-year arts major from Edmonton also had three tackles and one pass break up.
This was Loggale's second career Player of the Week nod.
SPECIAL TEAMS
Tayshaun Jackson – Running Back
Jackson was a force on both the offensive and special teams units. On offense, Jackson had 68 rushing yards on 11 carries and one touchdown. Jackson only had seven punt returns thus far, but the Gaels made the mistake of kicking to him. He returned the ball 98-yards for the touchdown.
He now has 150 punt return yards that sits him third in the OUA and fifth in the nation. He is also one of only two OUA players to have a return touchdown this season.
This was Jackson's sixth career Player of the Week award.
SCOUT TEAM
The Laurier football scout team Players of the Week are Darius France (WR) on offense, Mikai Dowe (DB) on defense, and Liam Marsden (DB) on special teams.
