WATERLOO, Ont. - Current and former Golden Hawks are in the midst of competing at the Grand Slam of Curling AMJ Masters in London from September 23 to 28, hosted by London's Western Fair Sports Centre and the St. Thomas Curling Club.Â
The Masters is the second Grand Slam of Curling competition for the 2025-26 season with a global field made of teams from 13 different countries, including Canada, the United States, Sweden, Denmark, and Japan. Â
New this season is the Tier 2 division. Tier 1 features the top 16 teams globally, while Tier 2 will provide the next ranked teams a chance to compete at the Grand Slam of Curling and earn points to move up the rankings.Â
Three Golden Hawks alumni will be representing their respective teams. Golden Hawks Hall of Famer Sarah Wilkes, the lead for Team Homan in Tier 1, is coming off her second straight world women's curling championship and has already booked her ticket to the 2026 Winter Olympics. Â
Danielle Inglis, a skip for her own Team Inglis in Tier 2, has four Scotties Tournament of Hearts appearances. Inglis was previously part of Team Homan with Wilkes where the team won a silver medal at the Scotties in 2021.Â
Sam Mooibroek, a skip for his own Team Mooibroek in Tier 2, just made his first Montana's Brier appearance this past March.
Competing alongside Inglis in Tier 2 is current women's curling team skip Emma Artichuk, and on the Tier 2 men's side is current men's skip Kibo Mulima. Â
Both are coming off very successful 2024-25 seasons with Laurier, sweeping the national titles at the 2025 U SPORTS/Curling Canada Championships. It was the second consecutive year the men's team won the national title, while the women's team took home their first since the 2011-12 season. Â
"This past year with this group of girls at Laurier has been nothing but a dream," Artichuk said. "We have made memories and been given opportunities we will never forget."Â
"From going undefeated at U SPORTS to being invited to record a video for the GSOC and now being invited to our very first Grand Slam is just such a full circle moment for this group."Â
"Competing in the upcoming Masters Grand Slam of Curling event is a really exciting opportunity for our men's varsity team, as we work towards our goal of repeating as U SPORTS champions this season, and representing Canada at the next FISU World University Games," Mulima added. Â
"We got stronger with each competition we played as a team last year, so we're grateful for the chance to compete close to home against some of the world's best teams."Â
