PETERBOROUGH, Ont. - Laurier's women's lacrosse team extended its winning streak to four straight games, moving them into sole possession of first place in the OUA West division with a doubleheader victory over Ontario Tech and Toronto at Justin Chiu Stadium in Peterborough on Saturday.
GAME 1
The purple and gold powered past the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks with a commanding 17–4 victory in the day's opening tilt. The Golden Hawks got off to a fast start, building a 5–1 lead in the opening quarter and never looking back.
Laurier continued to apply pressure, scoring four goals in each of the next three quarters while limiting Ontario Tech to just one goal per frame.
Jace Cormier led the offensive charge with five goals, while
Tori Nascimento netted four and added a pair of assists.
Delaney Keen and
Riley Marwick each scored twice, with strong supporting performances from
Tieneke Gedge,
Rayne Blasutti, and others.
The purple and gold dominated the shot count as well, firing 20 shots on goal to Ontario Tech's seven.
Raechel Cowan anchored the defense between the pipes, earning the win in net.
GAME 2
Laurier continued their winning ways with a convincing 12–6 victory over the University of Toronto Varsity Blues, using a balanced scoring attack and strong defensive play to pull away in the second half.
Laurier set the tone early, building a 3–2 lead after the first quarter thanks to goals from
Tori Nascimento and
Rayne Blasutti.
The teams traded goals in the second, but Laurier maintained a narrow 5–4 advantage at halftime.
The Golden Hawks broke the game open in the third quarter, scoring three straight goals—including the eventual game-winner from
Jace Cormier—and extending their lead to 8–5.
In the final frame, Laurier's offense kept rolling, netting four more goals to put the game out of reach.
Nascimento led all scorers with four goals, while Blasutti added a hat trick and Alice Hanlon chipped in with a key power-play marker.
Laurier outshot Toronto 17–7 and got another solid performance in net from
Sydney Watson.
Up Next:
Laurier (5-1) will look to carry this momentum into next weekend's matchups. The Golden Hawks will face the unbeaten Trent Excalibur (7-0) at McMaster's Alumni Field in Hamilton. Game time is set for 10:15am.
Sunday's tilt will see Laurier face the defending champion Queen's Gaels (4-1) at Brock's Alumni Field in St. Catharines. Game time is 12 pm.
