LONDON, Ont. - The Golden Hawks women's lacrosse team had its first doubleheader sweep of the season on Saturday, posting victories over Western and Brock.
Laurier jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, defeating the Mustangs 12–7 in the opening game.
The purple and gold dominated the opening quarter with five unanswered goals, with Tori Nascimento,
Jace Cormier,
Tieneke Gedge, and
Rayne Blasutti all finding the back of the net.
Nascimento continued her stellar play throughout the game, finishing with a remarkable six-goal performance, including the eventual game-winner in the third quarter.
Western rallied with a pair of goals in the second and kept pressure on in the second half, but Laurier's offense proved too much, adding four goals in the third and two more in the fourth.
Raechel Cowan anchored the Hawks in goal, helping secure the win.
GAME 2
The Golden Hawks delivered another solid performance, beating the Brock Badgers 14–7.
After a tight first quarter, with Brock edging ahead 4–3, Laurier seized control by shutting out the Badgers in the second and scoring five unanswered goals.
Blasutti and Nascimento led the offensive surge, each notching multiple goals and assists.
Delaney Keen added key tallies, including the eventual game-winner on a second-quarter power play.
Laurier's balanced attack continued in the second half, outscoring Brock 6–3 across the final two quarters.
Solid goaltending from
Sydney Watson and a strong defensive effort helped Laurier secure the victory.
With her offensive output, Nascimento now sits in a three-way tie for the league lead in goal scoring with 15.
