WATERLOO, Ont. – Eight Golden Hawks are gearing up for some spring football at this year's U SPORTS East-West Bowl at the University of Waterloo's Warrior Field on Saturday, May 10 at 12:30 pm.
Â
Laurier's manager of football operations and head coach
Michael Faulds along with receivers coach Brendan McCracken,
Layomi Ojutalayo,
Spencer Walsh,
Marcus Tenney,
Sebastian Parsalidis,
Tristan Miller, and
Quentin Scott will represent the Golden Hawks at the annual event that showcases the top 106 U SPORTS players entering their CFL draft-eligible years.
Â
Faulds has been named the head coach of Team West, following in the footsteps of legendary Laurier coaches David "Tuffy" Knight and Gary Jeffries who were both at the helms of Teams West and East in 2023. He is coming off his most successful season with the purple and gold, achieving an 8-0 record and plenty of hardware, earning back-to-back OUA and 2024 U SPORTS coach of the year awards.
Â
Five of his players will be joining him on Team West. Ojutalayo had a stand-out 2024 season, amassing 502 receiving yards and four touchdowns, highlighted by an 81-yard touchdown on Senior Day.
Â
Parsalidis, an OUA first and second team all-star and second team All-Canadian, had 32 receiving yards and one touchdown while helping the Golden Hawks place fourth in the run game in the OUA. On the offensive line, Walsh played all 12 games last season and was a key fixture in Laurier's trenches.
Â
Miller and Tenney round out Team West on the defensive end. Miller is fresh off a strong 2024 campaign where he averaged just over four tackles per game, with a forced fumble and three pass breakups. Tenney also made his presence felt, to quarterbacks especially, recording 4.5 sacks for 22 lost yards, the most pivotal coming in the Yates Cup.
Â
Scott, making his return to the Laurier roster for his final year of eligibility, is the lone Golden Hawk on Team East. He has two OUA second-team selections and is a dual threat on the ground and in the air. In 2023, he had over 1,000 rushing yards and 244 receiving yards with a combined eight touchdowns.
Â
"We are excited for this year's group of East-West players. What separates this group of players is how strong they are in the weight room. They all train extremely hard, so they will put up very impressive testing numbers for the pro scouts in attendance," Faulds said.
Â
"This year is a little extra special because I still get to be their head coach for the week."
Â
The five Golden Hawks players will join others from the OUA and Canada West on Faulds's Team West, while Scott joins players from the OUA, RSEQ, and AUS on Team East coached by Cherif Nicolas, head coach of the Bishop's Gaiters.
