In 2013, at 29 years old, Michael Faulds became the head coach and manager of football operations at Wilfrid Laurier University. Very quickly, Faulds brought lots of energy and excitement to this historic football program. The Golden Hawks improved from a 1-7 record in his first season to consecutive Yates Cups appearances in 2016 and 2017, winning in 2016.
With the quick turnaround and success in 2016, Faulds was named the OUA and U SPORTS Coach of the Year. The high-powered Laurier offence under his leadership produced two OUA MVPs: running back Dillon Campbell in 2014 and receiver Kurleigh Gittens Jr in 2017.
As a student-athlete, Faulds was the quarterback on four Team Canada rosters; three junior teams (Atlanta - 2000, New Orleans - 2001, and San Diego - 2003) and the senior team in Austria, 2011.
In university, Faulds returned from a full scholarship with the Toledo Rockets to be the Western Mustangs' quarterback, where he won two Yates Cups and Yates Cup MVP awards in 2007 and 2008. He was the OUA's Player of the Year in 2009. He completed his time at Western with an undergrad degree in Geography and a master's in Kinesiology.
Until recently, Faulds was U SPORTS' all-time single-season and career passing yards record holder.Â
In his personal life, he and his wife, Stacey, have two children: Chloe and Lucas.
