WATERLOO, Ont. - The video team that captures every on-field moment of Laurier Golden Hawks football has earned international recognition for its work capturing and producing game film at a professional standard.
Laurier football video coordinator
Kerry Martin and assistant video coordinator Matt Carey were named recipients of the 2026 Pete Pino Dub Center Award for Coaching Film Excellence,
presented by the Football Film Federation (FFF) at the end of April in Bloomington, Minnesota. The Golden Hawks were selected in the U SPORTS category after being named finalists for the second consecutive year.
The other finalists in the category were the Calgary Dinos and Bishop's Gaiters.
The award recognizes football video departments whose film exemplifies the high professional standards necessary for distribution through the NFL Dub Center. Earning this award signifies that a team's work is valued by professional football stakeholders - including general managers, scouts, and coaches - based on criteria such as clean edits, complete play coverage, framing, focus, and production quality.
Martin said the honour reflects the standard the Laurier video department has worked toward for nearly two decades.
"We're appreciative of the Football Film Federation for this incredible honour," Martin said. "To win the Pete Pino Award is truly humbling. If you know Pete, you know his standard at the NFL Dub Center is incredibly high."
"We strive to be at our best each year, and being recognized while also representing our video staff team at Laurier football means a great deal to me. It has been a privilege to work with many outstanding players, staff, and coaches over the past 19 seasons."
Martin also credited Carey and the program's student assistants for helping maintain the department's standard.
"Matt Carey, our assistant video coordinator, has been a major key to our success as well, and I'm thrilled that he was also recognized for his work with us over 13 seasons," Martin said. "He and our six student assistants continued to uphold the high standard of excellence we set for our football program."
"This past year was especially meaningful, marked by one of the tightest and most committed video staffs we've had. They embraced the work and rose to the unique week-to-week challenges that defined this season."
Laurier's manager of football operations and head coach,
Todd Galloway, said the award underscores the importance of the program's support staff.
"I truly believe we have the best support staff in the country," Galloway said. "One of the important arms of that support is our video team, and
Kerry Martin and his team take great pride in the work they do, making sure all of our video needs are met."
"It is no surprise to us that they would get international recognition for the work they do, but I am very happy for them that they are."
Galloway added that the video department plays a significant role in Laurier's player development model.
"A big part of our player development model is being able to have everything we do filmed so we can give that constant feedback, correction, or reassurance so we are always getting better," he said.
Martin said the continued support from players and coaches has helped sustain the culture within the video department.
"We are incredibly fortunate to have the continued support of our coaches and players - past and present - and that support carries forward under Coach Galloway's leadership," Martin said.
"For everyone on our video team, the real reward is seeing our work come to life as a key teaching tool throughout meetings, practices, and game day."
