Jordan honoured with Hec Crighton Trophy

REGINA, Sask. - Golden Hawks receiver Ethan Jordan was named the recipient of the Hec Crighton Trophy as the U SPORTS football Player of the Year.

"I am incredibly honoured to have received the Hec Crighton award. I accept this award, not only for myself, but on behalf of the whole Laurier football family," Jordan said.

"From the fans that have shown an immense amount of support over my last five years, to my coaches and my teammates that have pushed me every day to become a better player, and more importantly a better man, I accept this award with the utmost gratitude and honour."

Jordan made his mark as the first Laurier receiver to win the Hec Crighton in program history, and became only the eighth U SPORTS receiver to win the award since it was handed out in 1967, and first receiver to win since Laval's Kevin Mital in 2022.

He is just the third player in Laurier football history to be granted the award, entering the company of Bill Kubas (1994) and Taylor Elgersma (2024). This was also the first program to be awarded the national Player of the Year since Calgary won in 2014 and 2015.

The Golden Hawks became just the seventh program to win the award in back-to-back years, joining Toronto (1967, 1968), Acadia (1976, 1977), Saint Mary's (1988, 1989, 1990), McMaster (2000, 2001), Queen's (2002, 2003), and the aforementioned Calgary.

His 1,066 receiving yards were a career high in a single season, and it was his second consecutive 1,000-yard season. He broke the Laurier football program's career receiving yards record this season with 3,458 and now has the second-most career yards in both OUA and U SPORTS history.

Jordan's 10 touchdowns this season led all OUA receivers for the third straight year, led his team for the fourth straight, and was second in U SPORTS. He broke Laurier's program record for career receiving touchdowns with 30.

He had 68 receptions on the season, again leading his team for the fourth year in a row, and it was the fourth-most single season receptions in OUA history. It puts him at 239 career receptions, which is a new program and OUA record.

Jordan had a career best 133.3 receiving yards per game thanks to his six games with over 100-yards. He led U SPORTS for the second straight year, OUA for the third, and his team for the fourth, respectively.

"Ethan's career has been so impressive, not only has he capped off his career as one of the best Golden Hawks ever, but he truly is one of the best U SPORTS receivers in the history of the game," manager of football operations and head coach Michael Faulds said.

With Faulds winning the Frank Tindall Trophy as the U SPORTS Coach of the Year, him and Jordan became the tenth duo to win the Hec Crighton and Frank Tindall awards in the same year. The Golden Hawks also made history as the first program to win both major awards in consecutive years in U SPORTS history.

Jordan was joined in Regina by his teammates who received All-Canadian honours.

"I would also like to shout out the other seven all-Canadians that were in Regina with me," Jordan said.

"Receiving an all-Canadian honour is something to hold great pride in. From the first day of training camp to our last snap in the Yates Cup, these seven guys have worked extremely hard and to receive this honour allows those efforts to become noticed. I'm so proud of my teammates."
