WATERLOO, Ont. - Golden Hawks Kylie Laliberte and Liban Abdalla are the Laurier Athletes of the Week, presented by The Hawk Shop.
Laliberte, a fourth-year economics major from Amherstburg, Ont., was a key factor in the women's hockey team's weekend sweep of Carleton and Windsor.
In the team's 6-2 win over Carleton on Friday, Laliberte had a coast-to-coast goal and an assist on Zoey Dupuis's first OUA goal.
She had the secondary assist on Laurier's lone goal, and eventual game winner, to shut out Windsor 1-0 on Saturday night.
Laliberte averaged 16:35 time on ice and picked up three points in the Golden Hawks' crucial six-point weekend. In 11 games thus far, she has six points and is on a four-game point streak, marking the longest of her career.
Abdalla, a first-year economics major from Ottawa, Ont., stood out on the men's basketball team's road trip to the nation's capital, facing the #6-ranked Carleton Ravens and #7 Ottawa Gee-Gees.
Against the Ravens, Abdalla had a game-high 23 points, matching his career-best, while securing back-to-back 20-point games. He also had four rebounds in 27 minutes of work. He had 15 points in the second quarter alone.
The next night, the Gee-Gees transfer earned his first start of the season against his old team, and had 15 points and five rebounds in 32 minutes. His six made field goals and three made triples were team highs.
Abdalla has played five games for the Golden Hawks this season and has tallied 79 points, averaging 15.8 points per game, and is shooting over 40% from the field and distance.
This is Laliberte's second career Laurier Athlete of the Week award and first for Abdalla.
