Golden Hawks cruise to 6-2 victory over Ravens

WATERLOO, Ont. - The Laurier Golden Hawks returned home and cruised to a commanding 6-2 win over the Carleton Ravens, highlighted by three players earning their first OUA point.

Carleton struck first when Erica Buckley buried a backdoor tap-in less than two minutes into the game. But, Laurier would answer quickly, as Elle Spencer went coast-to-coast and wired a shot into the top corner to tie the game.

Kylie Laliberte gave the Hawks the lead midway through the period with her own end-to-end effort, nearly identical to Spencer's finish. Soon after, Zoey Dupuis netted her first OUA goal off a behind-the-net setup from Laliberte, with Hayley Murphy recording her first OUA point on the secondary assist.

Laurier carried the momentum into the second period with two more goals. Gabby Lehoux picked her spot with a one-timer from the point, and Spencer added her second of the night late in the frame – her team-leading eighth of the season.

The goal stretched Laurier's lead to four and ended the night for Carleton starter Kaitlyn Langille, who was replaced by Ella Grad to start the third.

The milestone moments continued in the final frame, as Estee Fodor scored her first OUA goal, jamming home a loose puck in the crease to make it six unanswered for the Golden Hawks.

Avery Krawchuk responded with a power-play marker for Carleton, but that was as close as the Ravens would get.

Making her second straight start, Laurier goaltender Kayla Renaud stopped 14 shots to earn the win.

"Pleased with the 3 points; happy to build and get offence today at even strength," said Laurier's manager of women's hockey operations and head coach Kelly Paton.

"We had a few players get their first OUA point today, so that was nice to celebrate as well."

The Golden Hawks are back in action tomorrow night as they take on the Windsor Lancers for the first time this season. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. at the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex.
