WATERLOO, Ont. - The Laurier Golden Hawks earned their second straight win on home ice, edging the Windsor Lancers 1-0. Â
Goaltender Sarah Howell recorded her third shutout of the season, moving her into first place in the league with an impressive 0.76 GAA and a .967 save percentage. Â
Laurier opened the scoring on a 5-on-3 power play in the first period, when Ella Jackson found Clara Chisholm alone in the slot. Chisholm wasted no time, firing a shot into the top left corner over the shoulder of Windsor netminder Rebecca Noble to score her second of the season. Â
That early tally held up as the game-winner, as the Golden Hawks killed off all five Windsor power plays and locked things down late with the Lancers' net empty for the extra attacker. Howell was perfect, turning aside all 31 shots she faced.Â
Noble was equally steady for Windsor, stopping 41 of Laurier's 42 shots.Â
With the win, Laurier closes out the weekend with a full six points and now sits second in the OUA West at 8-2-1-0.Â
The Golden Hawks hit the road Thursday night as they travel to Oshawa to take on the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. Â
