Golden Hawks win OUA Championship opener in 13-12 thriller over Western

WATERLOO, Ont. - Riley Marwick scored the game-winning goal in the final two minutes as Laurier's women's lacrosse team battled past the Western Mustangs 13–12 in a thrilling home victory.

The #4-seed Golden Hawks found themselves in a back-and-forth contest against the #5-seed Mustangs at Ansley Alumnu Field that saw momentum swing repeatedly.

The Golden Hawks carried a 7–6 lead into halftime and extended it to 11–9 after three quarters before sealing the win with Marwick's clutch strike coming with just 1:39 remaining in the fourth.

Tori Nascimento powered the Hawks' attack with four goals, while Rayne Blasutti and Jace Cormier each scored twice and added helpers.

Tieneke Gedge chipped in two goals, and goaltender Raechel Cowan came up big down the stretch, making several key saves to secure the result.

Laurier will now face the #1-seed Trent Excalibur in their second game of the championship on Saturday with a spot in the gold medal final on the line.

Game time is set for 1:30 pm. Admission is free.
