WATERLOO, Ont. – Laurier football quarterback Taylor Elgersma and receiver Ethan Jordan will ring in the new year in style after being selected to participate in the 2025 College Gridiron Showcase (CGS) in Fort Worth, Texas.
Elgersma, the back-to-back OUA MVP and Hec Crighton Award-winner this past season, topped the nation in passing touchdowns (20), passing yards per game (330.4), and total passing yards (2,659) in the regular season.
To his side, three-time U SPORTS All-Canadian and multi-year OUA all-star Jordan sat atop the charts in receptions (59), receiving yards per game (125), and touchdowns (10) while becoming the first Golden Hawk receiver in program history to hit the 1,000-yard mark.
Both Golden Hawks are a part of the 15 U SPORTS athletes selected to join the other college and university seniors across North America for the showcase from January 10 to 12.
"We are excited for Taylor and EJ to get this opportunity," said Laurier's manager of football operations and head coach Michael Faulds. "They have been the most dynamic quarterback-to-receiver combo in all of U SPORTS over the last three years, so to see them get invited to the same showcase event south of the border is special.
"They are both very deserving and I know [they] will show very well for all the scouts in attendance," he added.
As per the CGS, since the inaugural event in 2015, north of 900 participants have been given professional opportunities, with the NFL, CFL, and other professional leagues making up the 150 scouts on hand to assess and meet with the players.
Previous Golden Hawks that have attended the showcase include Godfrey Onyeka (2018) and Patrick Burke Jr. (2022).
Eight fellow student-athletes will also joining the pair in Texas, including Daniel Hochevar (OL - Guelph), DeEmetrius Masuka (DB - McMaster), Keanu Yazbeck (RB - Western), Kolade Amusan (DE/OLB - Windsor), Darien Newell (DT - Queen's), Silas Hubert (DE - Queen's), Ashton Miller-Melacon (DB - Queen's), and Eric Cumberbatch (CB - Ottawa).
It will be a jam-packed three days for Elgersma and Jordan with individual and team drills, scrimmages, one-on-ones, and opportunities for personal meetings with scouts and executives.
The schedule also includes a professional football education segment featuring mentoring, life-coaching, financial education, professional athlete life, and on-and off-field expectations.
